What is a Spiritualist Church?
A Spiritualist church is a place of worship where people gather to celebrate the continuous existence of the human spirit. At Nottingham Spiritualist Church in Sherwood, Nottingham, a typical divine service includes uplifting music, a prayer, an inspirational address and a demonstration of mediumship given by an invited guest medium. There is no dogma and no requirement to be a member — anyone is welcome to simply come and sit at the back if they prefer. We are a member of the Spiritualists' National Union (SNU) and a registered charity, and our Sunday divine service runs from 6:30pm to 7:45pm.
What is an Open Circle at a Spiritualist Church?
An open circle is a friendly, informal group where anyone can come and explore their own spiritual awareness and mediumship — no experience needed. You sit in a circle with others, take part in a guided meditation or attunement, and then, if you wish, share any impressions, feelings or messages you receive. Nobody is ever put on the spot, and it is perfectly fine to sit quietly and just observe. Our open circle runs every Wednesday from 7:30pm to 8:30pm (£4 on the door). Just turn up a few minutes early — there is no need to book. Complete beginners, curious visitors and experienced mediums all sit together, and our Thursday awareness group (7:00pm–8:15pm, £4) offers a more structured path for those who want to develop further.
What is Spiritualism?
Spiritualism is both a religion and a philosophy founded on the belief that the human spirit survives physical death, and that communication with those in the spirit world is possible through mediumship. It is guided by the Seven Principles, including the Fatherhood of God, the Brotherhood of Man, and personal responsibility. Spiritualism asks nothing to be taken on blind faith — it invites evidence, reason and personal experience. Many people first come to Spiritualism through grief, curiosity, or a moment they cannot explain, and find comfort in the knowledge that love continues.

Mediumship & Evenings of Mediumship in Nottingham
Our Sunday divine service (6:30–7:45pm) includes a demonstration of mediumship from an invited guest medium, and we hold special evenings of mediumship through the year. Monday mediumship afternoons run 2:00–3:00pm (£4). Private one-to-one sittings with registered mediums are also available.
Free spiritual healing with SNU-approved healers every Monday, 12:15–1:15pm — no appointment needed. We also host spiritual development workshops and awareness days throughout the year for those who wish to grow their own gifts.
Our Wednesday open circle (7:30–8:30pm, £4) welcomes absolute beginners. The Thursday awareness group (7:00–8:15pm, £4) and our closed development circles offer a committed, structured path for students working towards platform mediumship.
